Wow. I thought you were kidding, but you're not.
Wow. I thought you were kidding, but you're not.
Well I'm at the beginning of season 4, and it looks like I won't be able to catch up in time like I wanted to, unfortunately. Thanks for these reviews, Zack; they convinced me not just to watch DS9 but TOS and TNG as well, and I look forward to reading the rest of them.
Love Winters' reaction to Nixon getting shot, and Nixon's reaction to Winters' reaction.
"Quit looking at me like that!"
Don't forget "April Moon." Goddamn.
SMALL SPOILERS FOR THE LAST EPISODE OF THIS SEASON OF JUSTICE LEAGUE
Since I'm not sure if you've seen it already
They make it more kid-friendly, and yet there's still some pretty fucked up shit, like the episode where the antagonist becomes completely incorporeal and starts sinking to the centre of the planet, with no way for anyone to help him.
The movie's the best part of Batman Beyond, and not just for the famous flashback.
Wait, the DCAU is returning with Bruce Timm? Does anyone have a source?
A Justice League Beyond would be awesome. "The Call" was one of the best episodes of Batman Beyond.
Because that would mean making a smart, sensible decision, and DC hasn't shown an ability to do that for some time.
Wow, I never noticed Hellboy's right hand in the vault. It's also pretty neat to see a bunch of leftover Thanagarian stuff.
If you'd rather start a little earlier in the Discworld series, go with Mort. It's the best of the first five.
That speech is pretty awful. And trying to take the threat of a giant wasp rendered in poor CGI seriously is an impossible task, personally.
I'd throw out the Sonataran two-parter as well, if one doesn't mind missing their reintroduction. Reading an explanation on the Doctor Who Wiki or whatever is better than…
Can't cut Pompeii. Too much development between the Doctor and Donna to skip it.
To this day I have trouble reconciling the fact that the same person who wrote this sack of shit wrote "Midnight." Did RTD just not care most of the time? Did other showrunning responsibilities get in the way of writing? A combination of both?
"So we get mixed messages where the Doctor acts like a dick but we're ultimately supposed to handwave it or think that he's cute because of it."
I agree with you about season 4, but if rootboy's willing to go back to the Tenth Doctor, perhaps we could offer a list of episodes to skip? Poor guy shouldn't have to sit through "Voyage of the Damned" or "The Next Doctor" (giant Cyberman mech in Victorian London, anyone?).
I actually consider myself to be pretty lucky in regards to when I started watching Doctor Who; I was caught up right before season 7a started. Had I been watching since the beginning, I may have stopped here as well, if not at "Love and Monsters"/"Fear Her."
I'd suggest giving "The Eleventh Hour" a shot and see if the change in Doctor/showrunner does anything for you.
And if you were to keep watching after that, you could feel secure in knowing that nothing in the Eleventh Doctor's run is as bad as "The Last of the Time Lords."
I read the books first, and despite the little voice in the back of my mind going "he's just a kid" I was smiling the whole way through and actually cheered when he finally died.
IIRC, one comment for the review for the ninth episode of The Pacific says something like "I think I just got PTSD from watching this episode."
Both The Pacific and Band of Brothers are incredible, but I prefer the former for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
