I’m pretty sure anyone whose seen at least one episode of The West Wing, in passing would know this.

Canadian here: I see a lot of people posting about how they went to vote at the crack of dawn (~6am). Do you guys not get time off of work to vote? We have a law that you must have 3 consecutive hours in which to vote, so if your work schedule doesn’t jive with the polling station open times, your employer must give…
Canadian here and it’s the same deal. It’s because Americans vote for every bloody position from President to Chief Dog Catcher.
Reitmans, a fairly common store in Canada started doing this in the fall. Everything in store is available from size 0-20 or xs to 2x. Online you can get size 22 and 3x. They also have all those sizes in petite and tall. It’s always been one of my favourite stores for work wear and jeans, so this change made me super…
I thought I was the only one who hated Candice; I kept seeing Candice love on Buzzfeed. It was very specifically her too, nothing against her bakes since they were creative and I would have eaten them. She just seemed way too self-aware, and her constant lip pursing at Paul drove me insane. Sweet rosy-cheeked ginger…
Yeah, the only people who I hug at work are people who I’m also friends with outside of work, in the real world as I like to say. It only happens if we’re having a really bad day or on a break and happen to be talking about personal stuff. Apart from that, I don’t hug other people. My old boss was French and at…
How was BBC ripping off the format for their other show? It’s a contest, pretty much like every other reality show out there. Wow, how shocking, you start with 12 competitors, have them do a series of challenges over a set of weeks until there’s a winner.
Maybe this means that avocados will finally be starting to come off the menus at nearly every restaurant and I don’t have to deal with the weird looks I get from telling waiters to keep it away from my salad. Having a weird allergy sucks :(
Have you seen the Petro-Canada (I think) commercial where they’re basically saying Canadian athletes have ice in their veins, to keep them cool in the heat of Olympic pressure? There were actually ice floes. Cracked me up with the sheer ridiculousness.
This is why I like watching Canadian coverage and commentary, because while we’re super proud of our athletes, the commentators will provide a legit objective view of the performance of the other teams, even when they’re better. They also actually show a lot of the other countries performing during the day, not just…
I’ll fight in your corner. Beets are nasty and cucumbers give me indigestion. Also, why would Martha add cukes to a hot soup? I’d imagine the resulting texture would be gross.
I wholeheartedly agree with your stance on beets. I don’t care what you do with them, they taste like soviet sadness to me.
I suggest giving this Vox piece about authoritarianism a read.
There was a really interesting Vox piece on the rise of authoritarianism in America back in March that I keep telling people with a passing interest in the election to read. It’s a bit long, but very telling.
I’m not saying I’m for the “Rah! Eagles! Guns! Jesus! Boobs!” type of patriotism our friends to the south have going. Just maybe a little more of the spirit we see come out on Canada Day or a Canada/US playoff.
Calixa Lavalee did good. I love that it’s different from your standard guns and glory anthem. Although I hate that lately we keep mixing the English and French versions. They are actually almost two different songs in terms of the lyrics and I never remember my part. I’d rather sing it twice.
I found it super disrespectful and akin to defacing flags. These are important symbols that a country has chosen to use and this is not the time or place for you to insert your personal message. They are there to do a job, sing the anthem. I was kind of weirded out when they were talking about this on the news last…
If you think it’s bad in the US the dearth of selection is pretty bad in Canada. I used to go to the States shopping because there were more stores. I have a few nice solids and trousers from LB, but this is at least 4-5 years ago when the exchange rate was at par. ModCloth is hit or miss and can be a hassle for…
Very, very few among us can rock this look. Overall it is a very aging look. I don’t need the parts of my body I don’t love to be bedazzled.
Oh man, so true! I have no crosses, but one icon of Mary, one statute of the Immaculate Heart, and at least 3 female saint cards in various places. I just feel like these ladies can do more to intercede than Jesus or male saints. I identify with them more, especially modern female saints.
