What’s being seen though is that if you look after the batteries with good thermal management (IE, active heating/cooling of the batteries, like most new EVs have) the battery degredation isn’t bad. The ones that have had issues are things like the Nissan Leaf which doesn’t have active thermal management, and as such

So being BMW owners they have nothing to worry about?

My wife is currently shopping EVs; with the requirements that it be a capable car for ski trips (New England). I keep pointing out that many of our day trips are 200 miles round trip. Toss in the fact it tends to be cold in the winter, affecting range through the ambient temperature plus running the heat/heated seats;

This is bullshit - *anyone* who I am legally required to interact with must be 100% vaccinated. I have no way to avoid interacting with cops and TSA when they choose to engage. In return for those powers and their generous wages, they need to be vaccinated with zero exceptions.

And those just reminded me of the unbelted passengers Expedition rollover test.

You’re already pulling your phone out to use it as your plane ticket, it’s convenient to also do the same with your id. It would also be easy for say, bars, and other incidental uses. A lot of people now have their auto insurance on their phone, same thing.

RVs are built of balsa and tissue paper. School buses are built of steel and a solid dislike of all smaller vehicles.

When I was a college freshman, we went on a 15 passenger van for some field work. I got in the van and immediately put on a seat belt. Another student asked me why I was bothering with it at all. Without thinking, I replied that it would be pretty stupid not to use a seatbelt. I then noticed I was the only student

This reminds me of the NTSB booth at an auto show I went to some years ago. They showed crash animations, based on investigations of real accident investigations. There was one of a 15-passenger church van that rolled over, with animations of the occupants bodies being thrown around inside the vehicle.

True story: my friend went to MIT as a foreign student. The DMV lady was giving him shit about foreigners going to trade schools just to get into this country and to take her jerb.

My wife, an English citizen who never got her license there, came to the states with me in 2015. In tx, the test wasn’t the issue, our issue was getting them to believe she was legally in the country and needed a drivers license and getting an appointment to test made.

He could legally drive a car. Just using a foreign license which is limited in time (depending on the state) before you have to get your US license.

I’ve seen this in my line of work. The arguably useful Touchbar of old MacBook Pros has gone back to a series of F-keys (see ya, Jony Ive). To expect designers to listen to the ergonomics folks seems to be a lost cause, but these design choices seem to happen on the end of pendulum, always swinging too far one way or

My ‘18 Ford Expedition has a physical button to completely turn off the touchscreen. Pretty sweet!

That detail about Saabs is really cool.

i cannot stand the current trend for illuminated screens. might as well be driving with the dome lights on.

You know the reason: margin. Charge just as much for the more expensive mechanical switch layout with a highly configurable, multi-use, touch controls setup. Manufacturers won’t be going back voluntarily.

Not that I could afford a $150,000 wagon, but if I could, I’d sadly have to pass on this most beautiful wagon of all.

No, no no. That’s not what GTS means. It means “Goes To Shopping (malls)“

If I had a really big house, this would be such a cool roomba.
