I don't think you understand what Amazon is doing. Open Source means that anybody can grab the OS code and create their own build of Android. This is exactly what Amazon is doing. They grabbed the OS code and started modifying the crap out of it. At some point in development, the modifications became so extensive

The consumer get's cheaper products, so I'd say that's good. Just because they are using the Android OS, it doesn't mean that there is a lack of creativity at all. Think of it as using the same engine in a car. The body can be whatever they want it to be. Take a look at the Nook Color if you want a good example.

They are asking that because just like Apple, the device is going to be a walled garden. For most people, books, magazines, movies, TV Shows, Music, Apps, and Browsing is everything you need. Amazon is going to have all of that prominently displayed on their overhauled UI. This isn't going to be your typical

Most of the apps that are sold are games, so yes, tablets are used for gaming a lot. True, you don't need USB for a keyboard but most people have USB keyboards in their house. If someone is looking to replace their PC or laptop with a tablet, being able to stick the tablet on a stand and using a full size keyboard

At one point, I had a Transformer and a GT10.1. The GT10.1 just feels better in your hands, that's it. It's really up to the individual if that is worth the extra money. For me, it was and I don't regret it.

They can't use 3.x, it hasn't been open sourced. Flash can run on 2.1. Better UI is pointless since the entire front end is being overhauled and probably won't resemble Android at all. The JIT compiler would be nice, but Amazon isn't going for a "best tablet ever" awards. They want something that is really good at

That sounds like a terrible idea. There is absolutely no reason not to take advantage of a free and solid OS that is highly customisable.

I think just about everybody knows this =) They're going to use their own app store also.

Why not? What would they benefit from using 2.2 or 2.3?

Honeycomb isn't open sourced so they had to use a phone OS. Plus, it doesn't matter. They are overhauling a lot of it so it won't even resemble anything we have now. There's nothing wrong with 2.1 so why go with more hardware intensive versions if 2.1 does it's job?

Dunno, I think if you use your tablet to type a lot, plugging a keyboard into the tablet via USB isn't useless. Same with video game controllers. Trying to play any button based game on the touchscreen is such a miserable experience.

Most of the time my homescreen switching is smooth.

There's a difference between saying the sales suck and that the tablets suck, which is what Matt said.

You're saying that Google shouldn't show you ads for Levi's Jeans because you didn't search for "I want Levi's Jeans Ads". Since when do ads work like that? You searched for Levis Jeans and you got ads for Levis Jeans. Google isn't mistaking context, they are displaying ads for the popular line of clothing that you

"(when I search for levis+jeans+year, I might not be looking to buy a pair of levis, but the year the first pair of levis were worn; HOWEVER google returns a bunch of ads for the jeans which I did not ask for"

The customers are the ones forcing them to buy more disks. You can't have a successful rental place if it's near impossible to rent the movies you want, when you want. There's no way that Netflix wouldn't have some algorithm that took into place the demand of a movie and the average turnaround time when they

I'm not so sure about that. From what I understand, Netflix buys the DVDs at a higher price because they will be rentals. So, while a person might watch it and return it every 3 days, Netflix has to eat the postage but at the same time, they don't have to buy more DVD's because of the fast turnover. On the other

"It seems that there are far more achievements than quality content."

"however, I play MW2 because it's fun, not because of the achievements."

Why would money or women even make it's way into this conversation? A game at the lowest level is just a series of challenges within a rule set. Achievements/Trophies is a visual checklist of these challenges. In a lot of cases, Achievements/Trophies add additional challenges for people that want to try to
