The original is an interesting window into when most other countries didn’t hate the US nearly as much as they do now. I’m guessing Pullman’s speech wouldn’t have even made it near the final cut if it were made today.

No, they wouldn’t. An agreement between a team and a player wouldn’t be binding on the league, which I believe can invalidate even entire contracts unilaterally.
