Fiscally, death row costs more and it doesn’t work as a deterrent. It’s morally reprehensible even if everyone on death row were actually guilty, and they’re not. I can of no reason the death penalty exists except revenge. Revenge is imperfect, we don’t operate on Batman justice. And even Batman doesn’t kill.

It actually is the method we use for euthanizing animals for an experiment (although I’ve only used CO2), and yeah, it is probably the most human way to do it. It’s kinda like being put under anesthesia, except that there’s no oxygen in the mixture so that, as lizardleash said, you just never wake up.
