Bedside manner aside, your midwife literally could not assist if you had a major complication in your birth or delivery, and they might not be able to see the signs of something happening until it's too late.

If I ever have a kid (read: if I decided to go buy some sperm) I will have my kid in a hospital birth center that has a track record of leaving the women alone unless absolutely necessary. Especially for the first one.

Also - this post is so BREATHLESS about DENYING the baby food. No, hopefully whoever was taking care of her child - someone NOT in jail - figured out how to get infant formula. The baby VERY LIKELY did not die.
