The problem with our immigration laws is that they are immoral though. So it’s pretty messed up to defend locking people up on the basis of an immoral law.

I hate the “it’s only a misdemeanor / civil / whatever” argument. There are tons of serious things worth seriously enforcing that are classified as misdemeanors. The label that happens to be applied is more or less irrelevant. Assault, burglary, and perjury can be misdemeanors.

The administration did a nightmarish and monstrous job on this policy. But bringing a child with you to commit an immigration offense can’t be a free pass. Repeal the law, or find some way to enforce it in a non insane and evil manner that actually works.

Can you imagine how terrible everything would be if people just acted as if the laws were optional? Like...stop at the red light if you feel like it but we’re not going to do anything you really because we feel bad about it?
