I'm in Chicago so my experience may be different, but my theater showed an equal number of digital and 3D screening all at similar times, so I chose to go 2D digital.

Only 52% chose to see it in 3D, the other 49%, like me, chose to see it in regular digital. I refuse to watch any 3D film that is a postconversion. If it is not filmed with 3D cameras, I will not watch it in 3D.

I refused to watch it in 3D for this exact reason. I intentionally saw the regular 2D digital version. It was much better, and not dark at all.

I don't think its a matter of filming different material for the trailer. I think it is just different takes of the same scene: one funny, one more serious, and they used the serious one for the movie when they were editing the film.

Ring and Ring 2 I could almost understand, but it is still a supernatural horror film and the fantasy in the second one is slight. Evil Dead was not a straight horror film but more of a campy horror just like Evil Dead 2. Whereas Army of Darkness was a campy action fantasy, so yea, def genre shift there.

Oh, no, I would disagree on that completely. Granted T2 is a better movie than T1, but that doesn't make it a different genre. I don't see a genre shift in that franchise at all until you get to Terminator Salvation when you get to Dystopic Future thriller scifi rather than scifi thriller.
