Does it feel different, being built with materials foreign to pickups?

Yeah, I agree. That whole hood could be plastic 3-4 inches... that would significantly change the look. The new CTS hood and front end dip much lower that above, and I think to get the Cadillac branding, it must look more like a current Cadillac, not a German car...
