Yup - I love that film with the main Latina actress ....uh....um... no I mean that great film with the male Latino lead that’s called....uh.......?

Really - you’re going to compare a police brutality issue to diversity at the Oscars like they’re the same thing? But according to you and all the other people in this comment section who think Chris Rock shouldn’t mention other people of colour in film when talking about diversity (as if diversity just means black

I’m not saying that there should be a person of colour in every category every single year - but what I am saying is that excellent movies and performances are consistently passed over from people of all backgrounds. Opportunities matter in both casting, storytelling, and recognition. While I agree with you that

You’re seriously going to act like people of other races haven’t been a part of the civil rights movement? Fighting for equality for everyone?

All you have to do is get up on a podium that you aren’t being invited to be up on?

Well exactly. Some other poster also gave me shit for bringing it up because they claim America hasn’t been as bad to Asians as black people (completely ignoring the institutionalized racism and the Japanese internment camps). First Nations are pretty much never represented (or represented well) and are we going to

Right!? That’s all I’m saying. Some people seem to get it while others are incredibly defensive about me suggesting this about more than just black people.

I’m not even saying he has to speak on behalf of all Asians - I’m just saying it would have been nice of him to acknowledge that there’s a lack of diversity in general and he could have just said “people of colour”. Instead he’s making this about black representation in Hollywood when that’s not really the entire

“No one takes care of us but US”

This isn’t “all the time” - it’s the Oscars. Kevin Hart just delivered the message much more succinctly and inclusively than Chris Rock in a shorter time frame.

Yeah they could speak for themsevles - if they were fucking invited.

And I think you’re being an idiot for excusing and ignoring the fact that institutionalized racism doesn’t just affect black people.

All he had to do was say “people of colour”. He’s actively talking about how shitty discrimination is while pretty much ignoring everyone who isn’t black or white.

Okay - and the First Nations who are also never portrayed on film? Lets not pretend Asians were never mistreated in America either - internment camps during WWII for example.

Well it’s not just Asians either - First Nations, Middle Easterners, Latinos - there’s a whole bunch of people in America who are underrepresented on film or who are only asked to play stereotypical roles. Police discrimination doesn’t really have jack shit to do with film representation either - nice try though.

I agree.

Well, aside from the fact that he seems to think only white and black people exist and that no other people of colour were worth mentioning. And then there’s that weird “not everything is sexism” moment he threw in at the end.

I found it annoying how disjointed his monologue seemed and how he only spoke about black people - as if black people are the only ones suffering from discrimination in Hollywood. The last time an Asian Woman won an academy award for acting was in 1957.

You know, there really is a major bias towards the Bible. So many Bible categories! But you never see other religions or religious text based questions. It kind of ruins the show for me whenever that happens. And I definitely feel like this show has been dumbed down. Some of the questions and categories are laughable

Oh, sorry. Is my opinion on the subject getting in the way of your crusade to kill all humour due to oversensitivity and to relegate any opposing viewpoint as incorrect and undeserving of a proper argument? “Nope. Please Stop” sounds like an argument a stubborn 13 year old would make. Totes ew.
