@Trulymadlyme: Agreed. It's this sort of attitude toward sex workers that seems to have inspired Markoff's crimes in the first place.

@HereComesMyBaby: Having sex with a person who is that intoxicated (and she apparently drank all the alcohol and took the drugs in front of him, so he knew) is rape. It falls under the legal definition of rape as well as the ethical definition.

Also, there is nothing subversive about a film that reinforces the dominant cultural narrative about issues including mental illness and sexual assault.

I long for the days when rape denialism was the dissenting viewpoint here. Some of the comments I'm seeing are both terrifying and depressing, and support my long-standing belief in our need for widespread sexual assault education in this country. I've long been concerned about young men not understanding the

@goldengirl11 (is way too earnest): I think she was referring specifically to the crash where no one died — you know, the water-landing in the Hudson? The one where the pilot is getting People covers and whatnot.

@Penny Plastic (Archetype): I have gained a bunch of weight, too — RIGHT WHERE A BABY WOULD BE. But I have also been eating a lot during the holidays. Right? RIGHT?

@haguenite: I came in here to suggest a college fund jar.

@axel_f: It was definitely Friedan. I can't find the piece online, though.

She does. There was a piece in Allure a few years back where they talked to Beyonce about feminism and then had Betty Friedan comment on Destiny's Child lyrics. It was pretty awesome.

@Gingerlime: I think they just realized he is half-Japanese and half-German and it might be a good idea to hire a black actor.

I just bought my boyfriend's mom some Junior League cookbooks for Christmas. But they're from the New Orleans League, so I'm thinking jambalaya is more likely than Jezebel Sauce.

@Bananagram: My friend went as Five Dollar Footlong for Halloween. He put on a nametag that said "Jared" and had a dildo wrapped in a $5 bill protruding from his fly. I have pictures, but he might kill me if I posted one here.

Sadly, I know both of those people's last names.
