But then again, I lost interest about 65% into the game, and stopped when I heard shortly after launch that the game was half-assed and was getting a patch to put in the rest of the content. By the time they added it, I had already moved on to other games and never returned.

Yup. Sounds like the Telltale approach, and we all know how well that turned out. Some folks might wait until all parts are released, which seems to me like it would warp perceptions on initial sales numbers.

Re the mobile side release approach, that was just what I was totally thinking as well.
