You articulated what I thought while watching some bit with him, Chris Rock, Ricky Gervais and Louis CK on YouTube. With the exception of CK having a few moments it was not funny. And I get that you can’t always be “on” but the entire thing was so pretentious and cringe inducing.

Baking soda is a terrible odor eliminator. Scrubbing with it? Ok fine maybe it helps there even though it’s more the abrasiveness doing the work than any chemical reaction. But as far as just sucking up odors from a room? Nah. You may as well just drop that essential oil on a popsicle stick.
