Exactly. Add to all that the fact that Rivian seems to be developing itself as a manufacturing company, not a tech company, and it makes even more chance for them to be around long term.

I applaud Hyundai/Kia making the investment in US plants. It’s nice they are doing it here, not in Korea. I wonder if it is due to costs, or proximity to the market, or whatever that led to that decision. Regardless, I am always happy to see that opportunities for work will crop up on our shores.
Damn, I love having a good conversation about a subject. Thank you!
Please, keep in mind that the victim in this horrible, horrible accident suffers from a very debilitating disease - assholism. A disease that affects many, both the victim and anyone suffering being around them. Have a bit of compassion. And help stamp out assholism before it kills or maims another victim.
Ha, that Dakota will likely be a rebadged Chinese pickup. The 2021 Peugeot Landtrek. Already on the market in other markets, just not here - yet. Coming soon to a CJDR dealer near you...
Not saying you are incorrect, but you are overlooking my point.
oops...
Well, there is a downside, if - and it is a big if - the switch to EV over ICE happens, and if it happens sooner than later.
Oh, FFS, right. It’s like keeping up with the many husbands of Elizabeth Taylor, or wives of Mickey Rooney. After 4 or 5 you miss a couple along the way....
True, that was why Daimler “merged” with Chrysler. My bad.
Well......
Good point, and a wonderful reason for EV tech to be incorporated into the off road market. The traction of having 4 separate motors, all individually working to provide maximum traction, and wow, how it would be a major upgrade to a regular 4WD setup.
If you know your history, you would understand that Jeep really was saved by a French company putting money, time, and effort into the Cherokee. That is what made Jeep relevant at that time, and really kept it going forward.
Is this really a warning to the CEOs of those divisions, or is it a veiled warning to the dealers instead? Like, you have 10 years to milk this cow, then we are shutting it down on you? Because stopping the brand really does not do a lot of damage corporately. Those managers who showed success will move to another…
Rule #1 about publicity: There is no bad publicity so long as they spell your name correctly.
This is the case of an unstoppable force (Tesla) meeting an immovable object (the government of China).
Maybe this one uses one of my favorite statements:
The issue is that the really overloaded and poorly named and worded “infrastructure” bill is pushing the boundaries of what people termed infrastructure in the past into what is actually socially required infrastructure in the present.
Well, in this day and age, it seems more likely than not that any OEM could probably set up some marketing method - much like an Apple Store - and do as well or better than the current franchise dealer setup. And they can and would control it. And OEMs already sell cars - just to franchises, not to end users. There…
That is true that a new EV is less polluting in use than an old ICE car. But that was not my point. The original post I replied to questioned the “environmental costs of production and disposal” and that is where an item already made is going to lose in that argument, so long as the item it is replacing is still…
