Why is the role stupid? If you lose control of the ball before you come last cross the line and it touches out of bounds it is a touchback. It isn’t complicated and a coaching staff getting paid millions should be smart enough to know this.

What’s counter intuitive about it? If you fine the ball out of bounce in the end zone it’s a touchback, which is a pretty basic rule. The red did not say he lost control of it when he hit the pylon but that he lost control of it and (then) it hit the pylon. That’s a big difference and pretty basic football.
