RAM is so large you can read it from space, but otherwise this has by far the least offensive styling of any of the big trucks right now.
So what you’re saying is that there is nothing on the market like this?
Which trucks are for sale currently with a parallel hybrid drivetrain?
UAW Documents list the Wagoner and Grand Wagoner will be using this same platform, so expect this powertrain to be put in those vehicles.
Not at all. This is more akin to a locomotive, than any hybrid on the market. The ICE engine does not directly power the wheels in any way.
I’d buy Toyota’s argument if they could actually produce either of their prime PHEV products in decent volumes, they Prius is only going to get 30k while the RAV4 Prime continues to have very limited availability compared to demand.
I thought the whole point of these things is that they have much smaller packs that…
The 4xe is a plug in hybrid where both ICE and electric connect to driveline. This is range extended battery electric vehicle. Essentially, the V6 is not directly attached to the drive system. The V6 is only designed to recharge the batteries as needed. This is an electric vehicle prepackaged with a generator like…
Range extended BEV trucks definitely makes sense. Trucks have plenty of space to put both EV and ICE drivetrain and related parts, weight is of less consequence, and are typically not street parked on a daily basis. But Toyoda was speaking across the whole market of cars and crossovers, and there I disagree…
So basically, RAM has built a Chevy Volt pickup. NICE! Sign me up!
First of all, Chrysler needs to learn from the mistakes from GM when they came out with the Volt. We owned one for 10 years and even towards the end of owning it, I had to explain that yes, it had a gas engine AND a battery and that the battery could power the car exclusively until it ran out afterwards the engine…
This is an incorrect assumption. It will not work like the 4xE at all.
Now can they just make an SUV version of this?
Based on Ram’s description, it appears to be a plug-in series hybrid electric vehicle. The truck only receives propulsion from the electric motors, but has a range-extending gas engine onboard that powers a generator. The truck can determine how to use the generator’s power, depending on how much power it needs to…
Exactly. Nothing wrong with developing strictly EVs, but there is no reason to not keep developing hybrid powertrains at the same time.
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for in a hybrid vehicle. Electric for the daily commute and no worries about range or sitting around waiting to charge on a road trip.
This is what all of the major truck makers should have been doing instead of looking into EV’s.
Sadly, their implementation immediately moves the bar to the top as soon as you tap on it, which is really annoying and almost completely defeats the purpose since the bar is out of easy reach again.
Tesla stans are really something else. It’s hilarious because the button layout is indeed minimalist. “Minimalist” doesn’t mean “de-contented.” It’s nice to see some actual design applied to a Tesla interior, modest as it is.
May be? LOL, F that POS
