I don’t see it as that at all. If I saw RECENT college grad, I would think “eh, not me. I graduated in 2006" if I saw “college grad” I’d think “yeah, I can apply for that since I am a college grad”. Not the same, recent implies that you are most likely in your (early) 20s.
