When some on campus apartments caught fire at my university (Texas Womans University) , the campus police had to be called BEFORE the city police. Never mind that, you know, A FUCKING BUILDING THAT HOUSES STUDENTS IS ON FIRE!!! Then there was that time I watched them “pull over” a student for jay-walking across an

Let’s not go crazy here and forget that campus police exist to protect the university’s reputation, not the students. They’re just as racist and sexist as the regular cops, but less competent at the basic crime stuff.

Is this common? My Canadian brain can’t get around the fact that universities have their own private police force to wich the actual police defers to.

Campus police should be done away with. Universities should submit to the laws of the cities they’re in, and cities they’re in should take responsibility for the students they benefit economically from having live there.

Too much love for God King Gabe Newell.

Oh my God that pandering statement. She named it "kimono" because the first syllable is "Kim". I'm positive that's the one and only reason.

Yeah the way they’ve managed to gamify shopping doesn’t really sit right with me. I don’t really understand how people can be mad at lootboxes for preying on addictive behaviour but I don’t really hear a word about this.

It’s times like these I remember how weirdly dystopian Steam is. “Buy more games so you can win this cute metagame to be entered into a lottery to win more games” and the unintended ramifications for both developers and customers is something I’d expect out of a too-on-the-nose cyberpunk setting.

Today I learned Valve still makes games. They are just inspired by predatory mobile games.

Yeah, medicine should never care what you identify as, just what your body actually is. I mean, sure, socially the docs and nurses ought to address you as whatever you ask them to, but it’s medically important that you also tell them what you actually are.

Sigh, super unpopular facts incoming, please hear me out.

I’m a medical student who just passed forensic medicine. My good friend works in the field of archaeological forensics. Her team is specialized in identifying the remains on archaeological sites, but also in mass graves from the recent war in my country.

Most

Because for 98% or so of the population it provides a good way to help narrow down someone’s identity.

“What happens to medical research or clinical drug trials when a dataset misgenders or omits thousands of people?” Is this an actual concern? Wouldn’t a woman born in a stereotypically male-labeled body want drugs that are, I dunno, designed for the characteristics of a stereotypically male-labeled body?

This is a terrible take.... If you make these algorithms better at IDing trans and NB people, it’ll be easier for police to use the software to discriminate against these groups. Why does Jezebel want these algos to be better?

I don’t live with anyone so this doesn’t happen to me. But I’m dying to just yell “I HAVE FEET TOO! AND THEY’RE ALWAYS THERE!” That is brilliant.

I can distinctly think of a day where my husband stepped on the back of my sandals more than once on accident.  I strongly considered violence after the second stepping.

She might mean it figuratively, not literally

(pssst.... I think it’s metaphorical!)

Oblivious people get automatically canceled, no matter if they’re curing cancer and saving puppies from fires. They can do good over there without me, which they probably wouldn’t even notice.

Oh I believe this because I dated someone who stepped on my feet, bumped into me, failed to hold open the door for me, would put his jacket on and leave a restaurant and be halfway down the block all without me, etc. It’s like he literally didn’t see me.
