I neither have nor want children and even I see how US society simultaneously fetishizes families and despises parents. It’s colossally fucked up.

Boyfriend with a STEM degree and 20+ years experience in his field (started in high school) was laid off from his multi-billion dollar corporation last fall. The panic is setting in.

My mom is the Silent Generation, and I’m a Gen Xer. But I’ll need forget the screaming lecture I got when I said I didn’t want to intern for the rest of my life and I wanted to get paid for the work I produce.

Just chiming in to say that Anus Swarms would be a really interesting band name.

Can I rant about my boss? We got a huge new client, which should have been a big win for us and make us a lot of money, and I told her “be pro-active and make sure to get them set up properly, get all the info you need to get their requests done right from the get-go so we at least look like we know what we’re doing.”

I find that not only totally alarming, but also disheartening that you were allowed to work so much overtime and no one thought to mention this policy (policy?) to you. Heck, maybe it was even intentional. I don’t blame you for quitting.

Good for you for making this hard choice. I’ve been there, and I hope you’ll experience the same flood of relief that I did once I quit. I was a wreck before then (and did the head on the desk, sobbing thing, too). But afterward, it was pure bliss, even if I didn’t have a new job lined up and felt like I was jumping

That's terrible! They tell us at cardiac rehab that stress is a killer, and the pressure on you and those oppressive deadlines seem too much to bear. Good for you for recognizing that you need to make a change.

Yup (although it's 53 hours, so 6.5 working days), I need to figure it out with my notice (I think it’s 2 months for me) and I have a week off booked in May anyway that I might claim back with these accrued hours so that I can be paid my pro-rated AL allowance when I leave, but it’s just bullshit that I even have to

Thank you so much for your kind words! And everything you said is totally true, another of my co-workers went to the doctor this week who diagnosed her with high BP and recommended beta-blockers. At 30!!

Good for you! Can I rant about a weird co-worker? It’s just so bizarre, she likes to tell me, you’re so good looking! You should try out for America’s Next Top Model! (I’m 5'4" 37, and trust me, really quite average looking) Is that even still a show anyway? And there’s an IT guy who comes to help set up computer

I posted a few weeks ago about trying to lose weight and working with a dietician. Things have been going . . . poorly. I told the dietician that I feel uncomfortable with the amount that I am eating— i.e. a lot. She checked with her boss, came back to me, and advised me to increase my calories. Um. . . no. It’s been

I don’t know what his marriage has to do with anything. I’m divorced, my mom and dad got divorced in fact a lot of people I know are divorced, I’m in no place to judge anyone on that front and unless you’ve a close personal relationship with him or his wife with inside knowledge I really don’t think you’re in a place

Awwww, did someone spill something on your neatly tucked-in Polo shirt? TBH, if my parents had startup money, I would have taken it. Unfortch for us, we had to beg strangers for money and eat a lot of beans but at least we didn’t have to wear khakis! I spent many years in this “real world” you allude to and I find

They’re sure acting like they do given they refuse to fire their shitlord COO

I love it when bootlickers try to teach others how to be a better bootlicker. Hard pass, kid. I’m on the board. We don’t have a dress code for anyone. You wear what you feel most confident in. If you hire adults, you don’t need to tell them what they can and cannot wear.

Yeah but this is also very dumb because presumably you are doing work for your client in jeans, you’re just not meeting them in person. So what your office is asking you to do is play arbitrary dress-up, which is patronizing. The lead investor in my company shows up to board meetings in his cycling outfit, full sweat.

Stuff like what you’d wear in the logging industry isn’t so much a dress code as it is about meeting personal protective equipment requirements, though. Dress codes are more of a social construct.

When the schools start showing outrage for...bullying victims, child molesting teachers, starving students, crappy teacher’s pay, racism and the death of Kendrick Johnson...then I’ll worry about the dress code.

If the goal is to encourage students to take pride in their appearance, shaming their parents is the exact opposite way to achieve that.
