I think it’s for the people whose cars are designed for regular, but for reasons of age and being out of tune, etc. ping on regular. So they use mid-range to reduce pinging.

Why do so many cars have this weird/ugly junction at the start of the A pillar? Don’t car designers go to car design school to learn how to make things not ugly? Even the LC 500 has this weird area at the base of the A pillar!
