I don’t think Ed will be all that hard since many kids do whacky arm movements and the swirl eyes could just be goggles or make the swirly effect “Ed Vision”.  I think finding the right actress would be the more difficult part.

Plus Cowboy Bebop is heavily influenced by the western conventions as well. It doesn’t hurt that its fairly grounded and tame compared to other anime as well.
