Most (emphasis on "most") fans are by definition trapped into their own cult, therefore their own nostalgia. Basically, you can't really please a fan with anything new, they will always want to compare with the older, "untouchable" version.

My thought exactly.. At 650 meters, one can expect some pretty violent gusts that even a small rope at the feet would not save from. At this point we could just say they were simply lucky.
