As long as you give your animators a fixed framedata structure (launch time, hit time, inertia time, etc), you can make any animation you want without impacting the gameplay at all :)

Oh ? well, I just looked at Hwoarang's match, and his kicks are definitely not mocapped, but still looking like 1990 (interpolation between 2 key poses).. :/
