I wasn't talking about the other extreme where you end up having "tons" of textures to load.

Fake geek girls (and men, but less) are a reality, unfortunately. One example I have in mind is how 2 girls I know were acting like they wanted to play World of Warcraft intensively when it was presented to her, but just let their character die, unfinished, two monthes later.

Just a point : in this varied scenery, if only a 256x512 texture was used by "selectively applying it", then it means that a LOT of sub polygons were inserted to fit the right texture coordinates.
