Buddy, I’ve quoted the conversation. Let’s try a screenshot?

She misunderstood, not me. Her top-level response says what it says. Her subsequent lashing out trying to cover up her mistake doesn’t change that.

You writing clearly is my responsibility? Interesting. Well, your point could not have been clearer. But, like white women everywhere, you want people to engage with what you later claim to have meant, NOT what you wrote/said. Got it.

Go back to school!

I think I see your point, and I believe that few, if any racists understand when they cross certain lines.

Even if we take race out of the equation here, announcing that you’re feeling attacked despite how “nice” you’ve been isn’t a sign of political integrity in my book.

The hell is wrong with you? The difference between personal attacks and policy arguments is pretty goddamned clear and Vogel obliterated it. Invoking this bullshit relativism to defend her is weak as hell.

Kenyon Martin, the African-American former basketball player, has Chinese tattoos all over his body.

I like it. And I don’t see the problem here whatsoever.

This is one of those things I literally don’t care about, not offended by, etc...the history of dreads is literally international. Like, stop. More than that, we do all kinds of shit with our hair doesn’t have anything to do with our history.

How much money is the NRA giving you to spew their talking points?
If they aren’t you’re a whore not a prostitute, at least a real pro gets paid to do what others do for free.

That’s only supposing that every state in the Union would prefer secession, which is absurd. You might see small, fringe elements in any state, but it would be hard to see any actual states make a real go of it. California leaving would be a massive upset, and they might actually be able to afford to run. Most states

No, you’re confusing a state—a governmental body—with a nation—a group of people with shared historic, ethnic, and/or religious ties. The Catalans want their own state because Spain has historically attempted to suppress or eliminate expressions of belonging to a Catalan nation.

You mean the person who makes no points and has no love or balls.

They get to learn their own language AND have some autonomy? The audacity!

Spain shouldn’t exist. It’s essentially a hodgepodge of nationalities which was brought together by force and politics at the end of the Middle Ages; this is FAR from the first Catalan revolt against Madrid.

Here is the thing. It doesn’t matter what their motives are. You either support the principle of self-determinism or you don’t. The right to self-determination doesn’t come with qualifiers on it.

Except, that isn’t. The gist is, they were their own country for a long time, forced into a union with Spain and have brutally been suppressed by the Spanish many times throughout history. Including right now. Though yeah, if you were brutally forced into a union you didn’t want to be in, were ethnically suppressed

Catalonia has their own language, regional culture, and was independent for much of their history. The union with Spain hasn’t always been an easy one for them, particularly during times when Castilian was enforced and minority languages and cultures suppressed. That sort of national identity is a strong factor here.

If your concern is separatism, this is essentially the worsts response possible. A heavily militarized and heavy-handed response is more likely to push the significant portion of Catalans that haven’t really committed to independence to make a decision, and more likely to poorly color that decision against Madrid. We

Thanks for covering this, Eleanor. Even if I agreed the referendum should not have taken place, this violence is completely unacceptable. I’m in Europe and its interesting to watch the EU (non or very muted) response so far. The UK Foreign Office said nothing except that Spain is their “friend” and they support them
