Watchmen was amazing, absolutely nailed the landing, and isn’t almost two decades old. As for Hastings, not really a fan of the guy but I’m so tired of the “reinventing cable” narrative that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, but especially if you try to narrow it to one company.

I’ll bite. How did it shit in the fandom’s mouth?

Meet the New AV Club, same as the Old AV Club.

Ah. To be clear, yeah, if Biden refuses to step down I’ll grumble but I will support him.

Yes, we should have. And it’s a fucking shame we haven’t. However, a lot of people feel that the chances of beating Trump are better with someone else than staying the course.

If you’d vote for a rooster before Trump, why not encourage Biden to step aside so a younger, more energetic candidate can run to appeal to voters who have reservations about Biden’s age (regardless of whether they’re unfounded)?

At this point, I’m not concerned about whether Biden can do the job or not. That’s what he has a VP for. But I do not think the Democrats can win a general election with him as the presidential candidate.

How do those references break the fourth wall? I saw all the movies wildly out of order as a kid, and they mostly serve as a reminder that the character is a human being with a past and a backstory, and in context reinforce that all of these actors are playing the same character.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark is pretty much perfect. It’s perfect in a way that’s not matched by any James Bond movie, however iconic Goldfinger or Casino Royale or From Russia With Love turned out to be.

I use Safari on iOS with an ad-blocker and it just works.

I don’t think Tubi would count as indie, just low-budget (judging from their Tubi Exclusive movies catalog anyway).

I think both of those movies are indies*, but yeah, they were made during the era Holofcener is pining for.

Chris and Tom (and the Rock) don’t really do indie movies though. I’m sure their involvement gets the studio to pony up more cash, but I think the quote was in the context of indie filmmaking.

Nah, Gizmodo got sold off weeks ago. They just moved to a new commenting system.

Speaking of the indie world, I see a lot of indie filmmakers - specifically writers, but some directors too - creating shorts with the intention of adapting it into a TV show. I get it to a certain extent, because TV has become so much more, let’s say, prevalent in pop culture and there have been notable examples of

You’ll have to forgive him. He’s British.

“I may not agree with your speech, but I will hold it against you in a court of law.”

I suspect they’re just appeasing the vengeful SEO gods.

Fuck, that’s scary.
