If you think a screenplay is impossible to fuck up, you haven’t seen enough examples of bad direction.

You talk an awful lot of shit but when someone calls out your idiotic comment, crickets.
Hey, we got Rebel Moon *instead* of a Zack Snyder Star Wars movie. That’s a good thing.
If you cut out the podrace then, what, Anakin is just magically freed by Watto?
Millennials, not Gen Z.
I enjoyed The Phantom Menace as a 9-year old kid, and was pretty embarrassed when I was old enough to realize just how bad it is. It wasn’t until it was re-released in 3-D that I rewatched it and realized, yeah, it’s bad, but I like it in spite of its flaws and that’s fine. You can acknowledge that it does plenty of…
I think The Phantom Menace was the best anyone could expect out of pure, unadulterated George Lucas. He needs the Gary Kurtzes and Marcia Lucases of the world to keep him in check, and no one on TPM was willing to do that. I also think that what Lucas does well he does excellently in TPM, and I still get bolts of joy…
“I says to Taylor, I says, ‘You gotta’ have the scripts.’ You’ve got to have the scripts.”
Do you genuinely believe that I think people should be coming up with new negative criticisms of a 25-year old movie and that any negative criticism of the prequels is “inauthentic” (???) or did you read my comment in bad faith so you could find the worst and most absurd interpretation of it, hoping that I would…
I think the way the CGI effects have aged also has a lot to do with poor mastering decisions that for some reasons plagues this series in particular. For example, when the OT was released on (I believe) DVD, a warm tint was introduced that turned a lot of people off because the lightsaber colors didn’t look right…
I don’t think they’re good movies, but I do think they were more carefully-crafted and thought-0ut than people originally gave them credit for. I think the racist & misogynist backlashes against sequel actors like John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran also highlighted the ways people who grew up with the original trilogy…
Millennials. I was a Millennial kid (the target age no less) when the prequels were originally released theatrically, and I loved them. It didn’t take me long to realize they are not good movies, but for a multitude of reasons I got a lot of entertainment out of them, especially Episode I & III.
Loved the podrace as a kid and frankly, I think it still slaps today. It bewilders me that we only got one video game sequel to Episode I Racer.
KotPotA cost $160 million to make and is doing well critically. The previous movie in the franchise made less than $500 million worldwide. Less than $150 million of that gross came from the American box office. Kingdom’s $56 million opening is roughly on par with War’s $56 million opening.
I suspect it would go to the coordinator based on how they award categories like make-up, so maybe I’m making a moot point, but if Tom Cruise does an amazing stunt that deserves to be recognized, then recognize it. I don’t care if he needs to do it or not, it’s still him putting his body at risk, him doing months of…
Is Furiosa projected to have a big opening? Fury Road only opened to $45 million and finished with $150 million domestically. Plus everyone online seems to complain how “CG” the trailers look and even Furiosa’s early fan reactions - which are never reliable indicators to begin with - seem to all echo, “It’s…
Actually, the more time I’ve had to reflect on what you wrote, the more I’m inclined to agree. I have zero interest in stand-up “comedy” specials like Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette, and even though all the discussion about Baby Reindeer (including some rave reviews from a couple reviewers I trust) made me want to watch it,…
That means 55% of critics agreed with you.
It’s not the AV Club’s fault you’re lacking critical thinking skills
I finally finished watching Unfrosted. Overall, I liked it! It doesn’t all work (which was a big part of the reason I didn’t watch it all in on sitting) and it never overcomes feeling like a series of skits strung together as opposed to a real movie, but I got several hearty laughs out of it. If I saw it in a theater,…
