FWIW, maybe not every movie has stunt performers, but more movies than you probably think do, even if only for one or two scenes. I usually question why the Academy should tailor their practices to whatever will garner the highest ratings, but I gotta’ admit way more people would probably tune into see what wins “Best…
Subscriber growth was no longer a reliable metric for profitability.
But part of the reason Netflix had content across many different studios was because those studios were raking in plenty of money from traditional revenue streams (ads, cable subscriptions, physical media sales & rentals) - revenue streams that Netflix is partly responsible for disrupting.
I think in general people are quicker to call something “trauma” - not saying rightly or wrongly; I’ve just noticed it being used a lot more. I think it’s great that we’re more open to talking about mental health, but I’m not convinced we’re collectively talking about it the right way.
I think TV shows are also a trap because there’s a presumption on behalf of the audience that the show will get as many seasons as it “needs” to adapt the book(s), and that pushes up against the economic reality of the medium.
Like I said, it’s not really about defending free speech.
Oh, I completely blocked that out of my memory. That is dumb and unnecessary.
For me, the fact that they were cameos made them a lot more distracting (hence why I called them potent). I remember groaning in theater when Panda Baba popped up, because it immediately took me out of the movie. By contrast, I don’t remember any egregious memberberries in TLJ (I thought the “miniaturized Death Star…
It’s the fact that it’s live action for me. I loved the old EU - but I was a kid and I haven’t revisited any of it in years. I’d probably think it was as bad as everyone else says it is if I read any of it today. But the scarcity of live-action SW material made the movies that much more special.
I dunno’, man. It managed to cram in the droids, the ruffians that harassed Luke in the cantina scene from ANH, and both a digitally-revived Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher. Rogue One has plenty of member-berries - certainly more potent ones than TLJ - and it’s dull as rocks until the epic battle in the third act.
I’m starting to wonder how many people complaining have actually paid for cable. Like, I’m in my thirties, and I have never paid for a cable subscription, ever. But I grew up poor, and we never had cable television. It was a thing I only ever experienced when I went to other people’s houses. One of the biggest…
As long as I can to subscribe to Max and Hulu individually, I don’t understand how a bundle option *existing* is bad.
Why would you miss year-long contracts and having to call someone just to cancel?
Gotta’ publish something.
Burning the American Flag as a means of protest is protected speech. Yet, not when it comes to questioning COVID, transgenderism or climate change I suppose.
Eh, it’s all semantics.
Sooo… is management trying to figure out what io9 content does best on which sister sites?

If Elon Musk was really funding this lawsuit in the name of free speech (and I know, we all know he’s not, just humor me for a second), pick a random fucking nobody who was let go because of what they wrote on Twitter, not an entertainer who presumably had a fanbase before she even launched her acting career that she…
