Uh… okay.

I think when it comes to something like politics, particularly when it comes to the wellbeing of people, yeah, there’s no particularly good reason to respect a bigoted opinion or someone who is being nasty. And I think there’s certainly a point where media and politics intersect. No need to be polite to someone

I don’t believe I’ve ever called someone a “fucking idiot” for daring to have a different opinion than mine, but I guess I could be wrong.

I said “if you sit around and don’t do anything until an oligopoly or monopoly has formed, then you’ve waited too long.” From there, you extrapolated things I didn’t say.

Are you really this bad at reading comprehension?

The industry is consolidating. That is a fact. This article you’re commenting on is about an acquisition, not a merger. My entire point was that an industry does not have to be a monopoly for a handful of large businesses to exert power over its consumers. Try reading next time.

Your argument is focused almost entirely on whether or not a monopoly is being created, and focused exclusively on the video game industry. I’m not arguing anything, or trying to convince you of anything. I think similar mergers and acquisitions of the same scale as Microsoft and Activision have always ended up with

LexW cannot stand different people having different opinions from them.

I’m sorry, you’re never going to convince me that monopolies are a good idea, much less in the current state of the American economy. That regulators have increasingly bent to corporations’ will over the past several decades speaks to the failures of capitalism and American regulations, not an inherent lack of harm

SAG-AFTRA

1) I’m not trying to convince you, or anyone, that consolidation is inherently bad. Aside from just having no interest in doing so, I think reducing things to whether or not they are “inherently” good or bad removes the very context that makes an action good or bad.

I like my analogy better but either way, yes, an Applebee’s in my neighborhood is not worth PepsiCo acquiring all of Applebee’s to me.

Two things can be true: exclusivity clauses are anti-consumer, and this merger shouldn’t be approved.

I think Microsoft not owning Activision is better than Microsoft owning Activision, yes. Activision published CoD on Nintendo consoles before, and there is nothing - literally nothing - stopping them from publishing a CoD game on the Switch now.

Sounds like a real nutjob. Hope she gets mental health treatment from jail.

For ten years. That’ll be worth it. /s

“Actually, monopolies are good for customers” is a new one to me. Look, you’re right that anti-consumer practices have existed in the video game industry without a monopoly, but I’m not convinced that’s an argument in favor of monopolies at all. It just means those practices *exist* and regulators aren’t doing

I think that’s what it is. So many of the pro-merger people insist that this particular merger will not result in a monopoly. But it’s like they take the meaning of monopoly so freaking literally, they don’t realize that 1) an oligopoly is not really any better for consumers (see: Internet providers) and 2) if you sit

Why?

They’re industry awards. They’re not really awarding art per se, so much as they’re awarding each other. That’s why, as much as I understand why people dismiss them as bullshit because of the politics involved, I don’t really understand why people outside of the industry get so worked up about them one way or the
