Hey, Tom Cruise and James Cameron are people.

Awarding popular movies can have an increase in viewership though.
Huh. From the snark, I always assumed AVC fell on the side of Marvel movies being “real cinema.”
As someone that rolls their eyes every time a montage starts during the Oscars (other than in memoriam, obvs), I feel personally attacked.
Kotaku reached out to ask how it would be enforced
This. It’s punishment for the sake of punishment at this point. It’s completely divorced from Will Smith actually growing, atoning, or reconciling with Chris Rock now.
Jezebel!!!
Good.
Seems completely reasonable. I wonder how people are going to spin this into her being ungrateful.
That wasn’t an apology, it was an admission that you personally did not say “JK Rowlings money funds anti-trans ideology” etc.
That’s okay. These things are cyclical.
They didn’t get me. I knew after last year, the producers would clamp down on all the risks and made sure the show went without any incident. In other words, boring.
I didn’t watch the ceremony so I saw this headline and assumed some country singer won for a diddy about growing up in the heartland.
It’s probably the writers’ fault, but yeah, the edited version was the visual equivalent of explaining the joke.
I’ll add on to this by pointing out that by virtue of the fact that they are a reflection of the movie industry, the Oscars really have no responsibility to reflect the tastes of, or resonate with “audiences.”
I wonder if the Oscar nominations for Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix, and now Angela Bassett has made actors redo their calculus for accepting roles in comic book movies. But if you’re producing Star Wars: Episode XI for Disney, then yeah, just accept the millions of dollars and leave the creative awards for the little…
And when she lost, Bassett was expected to just smile through her disappointment, like Black women often do... So not only do we lose, but we’re expected to lose in a certain way.
I mean, honestly, good for them. It takes some real maturity to recognize a relationship is toxic and voluntarily walk away.
The money is the reward. These huge ass blockbusters will do just fine.
Okay… I still liked it more than EEAAO, and would have nominated it for Best Picture, as a handful of animated features have been in the past. But then, I know I’m in the minority there.
