You seem perfectly nice, but it's one of the classic insults. Racists in Boston held up watermelons to insult civil rights marchers in the 70s when I was a kid. I remember asking my father what was going on, and the bitterness in his white, liberal, usually measured and humorous voice was shocking to me.
