Malaz as a whole is imo, the best modern fantasy written. Gardens is by far the weakest but serves a longer purpose. If your soul isn’t crushed by then end of Deadhouse Gates (book 2)then its most def not for you. The series is also on Audibles if you’d prefer an audiobook and they are most excellently narrated.
Loved the 1st and 2nd novels in Locke Lamora/Gentleman Bastards, third was good though i believe it suffered some due to the authors personal problems. Powder Mage trilogy i found enjoyable.
