Malaz as a whole is imo, the best modern fantasy written. Gardens is by far the weakest but serves a longer purpose. Loved the 1st and 2nd novels in Locke Lamora/Gentleman Bastards, third was good though i believe it suffered some due to the authors personal problems. Powder Mage trilogy i found enjoyable.
