I seem to recall reading someone that the show runners plan was for Merlyn to be Olivers last big bad on the show, I think this was before season one had ended. If that’s still the plan it could be why they are trying so hard to keep the character around, that and the fact that Barrowman is magnificent.

Star Wars, A New Hope does it for me, as clichèd as it sounds. The music, the opening crawl, the space battle and the ships themselves all worked brilliantly to pull you into this new world and keep you there.

Even though it is a great opening to a movie, A New Hope would have to take the prize for me.
