Not just quietly, secretly. Unannounced, behind closed doors, with no roll call or record of votes, on a national holiday, under the wire so there was no time to fight against it. A secret vote to give them explicit control over investigations into their own misdeeds. A decision that keeps them from being accused of

Seems like an open and shut case to me. It’s not fair to only serve tourists to black people.

It just means Futurama is real.

Pete Souza is a great photographer and a damned decent guy. “Afterwards, I tracked down his name — Clark Reynolds — and had the President sign a copy for him” He didn’t have to do that, but did it anyway to give a kid the most amazing gift

My favorite part of the Obama legacy is going to be everyone forgetting that Republicans did absolutely nothing for the American people during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and say it “could have been better”

Most Deadspin readers probably don’t know this, but Tom Scocca used to do a regular write up of newspaper comics with occasional Deadspin contributer Joe MacLeod for the Baltimore City Paper. It was awesome, but it doesn’t appear to be archived anywhere.

I think a lot of women who voted for him voted BECAUSE of his anti-abortion stance, which nauseates me.

The contrast between making women’s contractitive and reproductive health access basically illegal while men’s ED pills (Viagra and Cialis) go OTC is going be just so… Ironic? Tragic? What’s the word I’m looking for…

Nope. The conservatives in every red state ive ever lived in have known the risk and threat of voting in Republicans to their welfare, food stamps and other social programs they happily take advantage of. They don’t care. They want to vote for someone who despises women and minorities as much as they do no matter what.

This. Half of the Democratic Party’s problem is that its leadership came of age in Reagan’s America. As a consequence, their reflex in a fight is to get small and save what they can, because all they know is a public that won’t stand with them if they go hard for what they believe. They fight the battles that they can

C-SPAN is only active and streaming when the House is in session. This is a really important distinction. The Speaker can gavel the House out of session any time he wants, and the camera goes dark. That means that whenever any kind of dissent he wants to squash gets started, he can simply close the session and cut off

“It’s essential to see both the good and the bad; Republicans clearly viewed the sit-in as a breakdown of the democratic process, but it was very obviously the opposite.”

If they were able to do so behind the scenes without this, then this is hardly going to help them. Being able to not be fined obviously didn’t undermine their ability to consolidate and/or hold power.

This is the real threat. This is the beginning of the marginalization and isolation of dissent in any form by the House Republicans. It was bad enough that they demanded that all Republicans march in lockstep, but now they want all members - party or position on an issue notwithstanding - to march or be shunned,

They seem to have done pretty well in the last 2 elections. So I would say that they don’t really need it to maintain power.

Trump is a travesty. But it’s going to be the Ryan and McConnell and the rest in Congress that are going to trash everything. Trump will just sign whatever shit they put in front of him.

It is frightening how much the Republicans want to end the transparency of the democratic process.

Clear goal: To remind the people sitting in those big white buildings how many voters don’t want This platform.

I’m a white person and as such work diligently against my own racism on a daily basis. I openly acknowledge that racism exists within all white people and must be challenged.
