I think after the whole end of the avengers movies and the big star wars, movie goers, enthusiasts, fans are tired of the BIG scale stories. I enjoyed the spiderman:far from home movie a lot because of the miniscule scale.

I think they won’t retconn the sequels, 30 years is a lot of time to tell enough stories that contradict the sequels. The empire could be a villain for 29 more years and then the first order can be seen.
