I own two British cars, you could not pay me enough to set foot on a British submarine!

But the answer is always Miata! And the thing is, the Miata is what it is. It's just a sportscar, nothing else. It’s not something trying to be something else - like if you took a Miata and tried to make a luxury off road vehicle out of it. An off-road truck originally designed for the military but now blinged up with

I’d rather have a G300CDi with a vinyl interior and a 5/6spd stick. Or what I have, an old P38 Range Rover with some “Texas racing stripes” down the side from actually spending a bit of time off road. I really, truly don’t get the fascination with the roid rage versions of off-road trucks. They just suck FASTER on the

Yes, you can still get a G-wagen with a hose it out interior and a practical smallish diesel engine that would be something you might actually want to take off-road. Of course, not in the US, where the almost exclusive market for these overpowered bling-bus versions is to the Kardashian set and douchebags with small

They made the windows smaller. <facepalm>

Doug admitted that he did not enjoy the car all that much for fear of it costing too much - and his was an older car when he bought it. Sure he put more than average (for a Ferrari) miles on it, but he was also effectively using it as a business tool, since by making all the videos and writing columns about it, he

My favorite celeb on a plane sighting - I sat behind Ray Charles on a flight from Portland, ME to Detroit many years ago. He was reading the Braille edition of Playboy - for the articles, evidently. Sadly, this was before cell phones had cameras. It might have been when cell phones were still usually bolted into

Best route across the US? In an airplane, preferably in First Class. There is WAAAY too much nothing in-between the interesting parts to do it by car. Nebraska is why God invented the airplane.

Oh come now Doug, your legs are so sexy they refuse to be covered!

Why? Amtrak is far and away the best way to get from Philly to NYC or DC. The Northeast Corridor is one of the few places in the country where we actually have the population density to support decent rail service, and Amtrak does a pretty darned good job of it.

Let's be a little bit realistic here. This is more an indicator of just how ridiculously safe flying is than an indictment of train travel. Trains travel on the ground, and have interactions with people driving cars, the weather, heck there was that bad accident caused by a towboat lost in the fog whacking a bridge.

That's why I love the old 308s so much. Looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, feels fantastic, slow enough to be usable in modern traffic while still being entertaining. Doesn't bother me a bit that a Camry can outrun it, it's a FERRARI. And still cheap enough for us mere mortals to afford. A buddy of mine has a nice

The current GTI really IS cheap. When you consider that it really is a good enough car that if I could not afford an M235i I would be perfectly happy to own a GTI. That is some rarified company to be in for $25K. To get a little better car, you have to spend 2X as much.

Compared to an E28 M5, the E39 M5 was a fast German Buick too - same old, same old. Much as I love old cars, I have zero interest in driving any of them daily anymore. I drove an '84 Jetta GLI about 200K miles over 10 years, absolutely loved it, and have absolutely no interest in more than a 30 minute back road blast

Because I am not an old dude with a chest wig, gold chains, and a Navy cap, and my wife is not 20 years younger than me with a bad boob job?

I'd buy a 308 and pay off my mortgage.

The biggest reason is simply that the sort of person who owns a new modern Ferrari usually has a bunch of other cars. And usually has a job that doesn't allow a whole lot of time to enjoy just driving around, which is how you generate the income needed to buy a modern Ferrari and a bunch of other cars. Then you get

This is why you should drive Saabs in Maine and NH. Even though I no longer do.

Not capable now doesn't mean they won't implement that for the M2 in the future. Has to be a nice profit spinner for them, and the M cars are where the real demand for that extra bit of customization is.

Nope, Maine born and bred. I am one of the nicest people you would ever want to know. But I also truly believe in the Golden Rule we all learned in Kindergarten. Some actions negate your right to be on the planet breathing the air of decent people. We kill animals that are a danger to us, I have no problem with that
