If I had known that nobody else wasn't going to mention VLC, I would have done so myself. Although, when you compare it to WinAmp and Monkey, it really isn't much of a media manager at all. Its just a very solid, robust media player.

I wouldn't do that out of concern of heat build-up, since you're dealing with plywood. With the current set-up, it looks like there is plenty of open space under the desk area for the air to circulate more freely.
