I think one of the elements that killed it was economic change. The recession of ‘91-’92 killed a lot of edge-market cars in the US, then the recovery and the dot-com boom was driven by income disparity, which favored the Z3 and the Lexus-BMW rivalry (at least in Bay Area traffic-time radio ad spots).

Yes, too much money for this old a BMW, even though this is a nice one.

91mm wheelbase! That really will fit in my pocket!

My problem with hot weather and shifters was in my old Volvo 144. On very hot days, the heat would expand the ring but holding the gear shift to the tunnel, and with vibration it would work loose. Usually after a couple of hours, the shifter would come off in my hand.

Im lucky that I don't live anywhere near enough to try it out

It’s your thing, do what you wanna do
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to

That was my thought. If you want it as a daily driver (hey we exist), a 302 would be more livable.

I was surprised that Lincoln survived the great recession. In the early 2000s, it looked like Ford had given up on the brand and was biding their time before killing it off.

(without doing any research first) Has something similar happened to values for the ‘00-ish retro T-bird?

Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then you can criticize him all you want--you’re a mile a way and you have his shoes.

I’d rather have the ‘47!

I really like these, but I just don’t see the prices for a 2005 car. It might not be you, it might be the whole market that is wildly irrational.

At 10K if it had a title. I'm willing to bet this would be just shy of unregisterable in many if not most states.

My shade-tree Mercedes mechanic friend with all the official software licenses (to whom I still owe more expensive beer) jury-rigged a more insulated and vibration damping mount for the W204 ECUs. Not sure what he did, but I suspect he’s saved me from an additional 900+ in parts and repairs.

I’ve owned plenty of aging Mercedes. I’ve always loved the fact that nothing depreciates like a Mercedes Benz. Until recently, the most expensive was my convertible, which I bought at $3800. Then I bought a 2011 C300 Sport 4Matic—still used, and still for about 20% of it’s original sticker, but MAN that puppy has been

I did not need to see that.

Because V10 cool.

Comment of the day!

How did they engineer for that in the Nissan Axxess?

I really like the conversion. AND Rob put a quote from The Who on the survey. I HAD to vote NP.
