I haven't seen Midnight but I was thinking Scarface. Also a moment in Sorcerer (1977) when they're crossing a bridge and a awesome hollywood old mechanical fx tree branch blocks their path.

Yeah no doubt QT has an ear for classics (when he's not trying to be an obnoxious crate digger - see the song Ordell plays in Jackie's house).
Very good point on GoT comparison, I hadn't thought of that. It's not that Tarantino should change history, but after seeing his body of work to have yet another film where people say the n word constantly.
No one else has mentioned how bad some of the music placement is? Morricone's score is great but it reinforces the lesson learned in Django: unless it's 60s soul or rock, QT is really terrible at picking good music.
A very unique score from Morricone, to boot. For the first half I could have sworn it was Giorgio Moroder.
No it was definitely Morricone's score. Carpenter is not that good of a musician (not that he is without skill).
I mean… yeah? Period accuracy IS overrated. Plus the argument of "IT WAS THE TIMES" to defend bullshittery (i.e. Game of Thrones) is just weak.
Are you joking me? He is not even close to Peckinpah.
Also, why are people shit-talking Death Proof??? I love that film, much more than the cum-glazed piece of shit that was Pulp Fiction.
I mean, this is very very very far from the first movie to use VO without the creator being regarded as a hack for doing so. Maybe you've been reading too many screenwriting books. I actually enjoyed the VO but it did smack of a "see guys? I watch modern movies too like TAOJJBTCRF"
Ooh really? Like a Spellbound-like Overture?
I agree with a lot if not most of that, and good lord does that man love to use the n word, but tbf we don't really know if his dick was big. He just said it was. And have you ever seen a movie where a man was like I TOOK OUT MY SMALL DICK
Can't name Simpsons, before my time unfortunately and now its like… I'm not about to watch 20 seasons. That and Seinfeld will be my failures as a TV addict.
Yeah but I mean I love spy stuff. The finale could have been like ARMY OF DARKNESS, all spycraft and little fanfare but still really emotionally raw moments and exciting moments of tension.
I respect your opinion, but I just don't see it. Am I the only one here who didn't like it? Like, yes, they are subverting tropes etc., but if you subvert tropes and make the events really boring does that make it good? They had so much momentum and potential and squandered it.
I don't remember anyone saying that but I do remember the praise being lavished on her. I was going to say people were wanking pretty hard but it didn't seem appropriate.
Fuck you Hartnett is a greek god
It's literally a crime that Matthew Rhys hasn't been nominated. A capital crime. Now that Cranston, Hamm, and Mads are out the game I don't think it's really debatable that there's anyone giving a better male lead performance on television.
You goddamn Justified diehards consistently stymie me. I love that show, but you're out of your mind if you think it compares to things like…
I mean… come on. They're great but let's be honest there's not a lot of complicated notes written into Jessica Jones. It's the typical Netflix original: Prestige Drama For Dummies. To compare to what Kirsten Dunst or Matthew Rhys is doing? I can't get on board with that. I don't even agree Jessica Jones lives or dies…
