I think the people who will write respectful and meaningful responses will find a way to contact her. Also comments on subjects like these bring more hate than debate. I believe she did the right the thing.

From seeing examples of her hate-mail, her youtube comments wouldn't do anything to foster conversation. They'd just be a festering wall of hate speech.
