How can it be legal to force an employee to stand for the National Anthem? There were Jehovah’s Witnesses kids in my grade school who sat through the Pledge of Allegiance, for Pete’s sake. Do not tell me children have more rights than black adults.

Required to stand? No problem.
“No word on what the penalty is if the rule is broken.”
It’s a shame, because the books that do have WOC main characters are GOOD.
I get your point, but calling her a racist improves nothing, and does not promote change..... maybe saying “that comment is inherently racist”, or “that seems like a racist thing to do.”
Fuck yeah Dear America! That was an awesome fucking series!
I don’t get why Jane suggests the marriage was a mistake, because one set of in-laws are jerks. That’s way out of left field. I had a horrible marriage with great in-laws who I miss dearly, and now I’ve been in a darn near blissful marriage for 7 years, and I don’t like my mother-in-law.

1) The librarian’s overall point is a good one. She’s rejecting the gift to send a message about inequality that is steeped in the very act of making the particular gift. And this isn’t a normal gift. It’s the woman married to the most powerful person in the world attempting to snatch some low hanging PR fruit. And…
Well then she has that same day every single time she puts out a column. They’re all train wrecks.
So?
She doesn’t seem to know Dr Seuss’ writing very well. “The Sneetches” is a commentary on racism, and one of my favourites of his for that reason. He wasn’t afraid to tackle important issues, presenting them in a way that children could appreciate and internalise. See also: “The Lorax,” which was a stark warning about…
I agree. Ms. Soeiro was kicking ass but kinda pushed it too far with Dr. Seuss. Perhaps a better strategy would have been to take the books and say that she would pass them along to a school, library, or non-profit that was more in need of materials. Kind of in the spirit of what her main point was.
I just wanna say that if I’m ever FLOTUS or similarly situated to donate books to a large number of public schools, I’d be donating a complete set of the Dear America series. I loved that series as a kid. I still read them; I’ll be damned, but they’re good beach reads!
No you’re wrong. Melania tried to use the school for PR for a political message and the school did the same thing back to here. Maybe think a little before you post so strangers don’t think you’re stupid and probably ugly.
Is it possible that the librarian has since changed her views on Dr. Seuss after the picture was taken?
I agree. Especially for the sake of the kids—I’m mixed, and I had a racist grandfather (he had the decency to die off when I was a teenager); even our comparatively brief visits were painful because I knew I was only being tolerated. Kids shouldn’t have to deal with relatives who only tolerate them, in their own home.…
Regarding the 3rd letter: Jane:Don’t be so effing shallow. She doesn’t need to “ghost those fools”. She simply needs to speak up about her feelings. Either they will respect her feelings and their relationship grows stronger or their relationship sours. You don’t just “ghost” someone before even trying to fix the…
Also, maybe you married the wrong person? When that happens we often look for signs of trouble anywhere we can find it. Think about it.
Exactly. Why the fuck do we have a juvenile justice system if we can somehow prosecute 12-year-olds as adults?
