Adium, for tracking down people when I need them.

I hate laundry. It's one of the reasons I'm sold on wearing suits to work: they go to the dry cleaners instead of my hamper, and even then, only when they need it. It's not like I'm digging ditches here.

@joelena: One problem with 2004's 'version control'... Sometimes, it will randomly disappear. I've been doing documentation on a rather large website app, and was keeping versions for every 4 hours of work. Opened the file one morning only to discover that all my versions had vanished.

@dirk

If you know someone going on a cruise, ask them to grab you a high-end item for you. My hubby and I stock up on the things that are always good to have (vodka, rum, etc) when on a ship, as they often have great deals. Just make sure to give them some extra to cover any tax they might have to pay.

They do this on the Today show now and then, and it's one of my favorite segments.

Depends.

See, I need an article on how to -sell- my habit. We have a two month old, and boy, my husband could use the lift in the morning. But nooo... has to fall asleep in the shower and look like a zombie.

@Duane and Mindstyle

@ecobore: Sadly, cleaners will only clean around clutter, and won't usually put it away. So they only really work if you have everything in order besides the stuff that requires a sponge or roll of paper towels.

Tried it out, but was a little disappointed. It was nice to be able to do the measurements in feet and inches, but...

I had a program I wrote a while back that did this, but much simpler. It was a way for my husband and I to put a grocery list together, and a plan for eating for the week. He or I could pick the recipes, and it would autofill a list with ingredients I would need to get at the store. Then, we'd print out the list, and

@phoenix: Shutting down a city? Most romantic gesture ever!

Listen to WAK! My husband was out of work, and waiting for the ideal job almost killed us. Take anything: retail, help desk, piece work from friends of friends. IT guys: people will pay pretty well to have someone set up their wireless and such. Get the word out.

@Woodsyx: Reputation totally can make a difference. My company recently hired a guy that a group of us only knew of by IrC. However, we knew he knew his stuff. We could see he hadn't just crammed for an interview. He had a good track record spanning several years we could look at.

We give our son an allowance. This has really, really cut down on the 'gimmes' when we go out. Before we go somewhere where we know he'll want something, he has to count out how much he has. Then, when he sees something he wants, he has to evaluate if he wants it. At six, he shows more restraint than some 30 year olds

@asl4u: Already got to watch it. A friend of mine was a the child of a 50 year old father and a 40 year old mother. The father died when he was in his early twenties, leaving him the soul caretaker for his mother (who took the death hard, and wasn't adept at dealing with the world).

I use mind tricks, since I'm always up before dawn (so the light thing doesn't work with me). My bedroom clock is 25 minutes fast, so my first feeling upon hitting the snooze and looking at it is panic that I've slept in. By the time I remember, I'm awake.

Kaboom rocks my world. And Magic Erasers. Bam is good as well, and doesn't make my eyeballs feel like they're going to fall out.

The boy is off with grandparents, so it's quite peaceful. We'll see how they've destroyed him when he gets back. Then, it might be time to lace the apple juice.
