You know he’s not rural because he has a “yard”.  Whatever large-scale farming went on in that area in the past, it seems people largely abandoned that idea -- at least it looks that way from above.  https://goo.gl/maps/myp3pHXVmDpfL7Wc7

Did you visit the city a lot or something? Or you watched a lot of movies or something?

It’s obviously a bad faith argument. The video games are for us to live out our fantasies of shooting fascists, not being fascist shooters.

So he’s saying, “stand back and let the fascists handle this”?

The problem for Mr. Musk is that even electric vehicles are not a novel concept in underground transportation.  Most major subway systems are electric, without the added risk that you get from carrying a battery with you (naturally with the added risk of the electrified third rail).  The big thing that was supposed to

It’s pretty simple: you stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk, even if they're jaywalking. AVs should be ready to stop at crosswalks (this includes intersections, since even unmarked intersections are legally crosswalks). The real problem for AVs is that it is also illegal to run over jaywalkers outside of crosswalks.

Even worse than that, think about how they wouldn’t even be there if it weren’t for the Homestead Act.

Yes!  If you truly hate government you don’t pay for the privilege of having yet another government over you.

I didn’t realize this idiot is a NYT editor.  What the hell is with his comment about Atlanta not being southern?  Atlanta is the epitome of the modern south.  75% of southerners live in urban areas and only 0.5% of the working population is employed in agriculture and other rural land uses.  Atlanta represents the

Despite their stunning display of football competence, Clemson is still in the ACC.

Okay but he sucked against SEC defenses too, so it's not like he was a promising prospect who needs seasoning.

They have to replace the highway because it had reached the end of its lifespan. At a certain point it will be at risk of collapse. Building another raised highway will cost more than replacing it with an at grade highway, and you’ll have to replace it again another 50 years down the line. Typically these urban

Given the difference if pay structures between the men and women, is there any indication of what kind of resolution would be considered equitable?  Do they negotiate a contract with matching pay structure between men and women?

You can reasonably assume the female streamers are abused, because they are female on the internet.

I follow several female academics in agricultural science on Twitter. From time to time they share the vitriol they get from readers in response to having opinions about farming despite being women, and they’re definitely not trading on their cleavage.

Some things I don’t typically see pointed out about Warren’s 2% wealth tax proposal that are pretty important concepts to me:

Piketty pointed out in Capital in the 21st Century (and I’m forgetting who else he is quoting in this) that taxes themselves can be used as tools for uncovering flows of money.  Foreign governments will use a new American tax to help discover assets by their own citizens and companies that they can themselves tax.  An

How do you imagine people have lived ever since they have become sedentary? Tightly packed villages, no less dense than the major cities people live in now. Non-agrarian societies centered around pastorialism and/or hunting? Tightly-packed camps that are easy to defend. Humanity is defined by our proximity to other

It’s pretty good information, and it might make the point I had intended to make. The Athabaskan people who lived in this area were only sedentary in winter. They lived in groups and survived by hunting and trapping, activities that required mobility because they couldn’t get enough resources by staying in one spot.

Sometimes you can go on a trail that is really above your skill level, provided conditions are ideal.  Fording a braided river isn’t really an ideal condition, and that’s been one of the big causes for rescue operations on that trail since the book and the movie.
