For that matter, Washington National Cathedral, which is an Episcopal church, is another beautiful modern cathedral in the city, built with the long term in mind.  Knowing that Notre Dame has been rebuilt before, I had idly wondered if it would benefit from the knowledge used on Washington National Cathedral and La

Maybe, but consider that a Romanesque church was demolished to make space for the building of Notre Dame de Paris.  Maybe they thought it would last forever, but then again maybe they thought it would last until the next time someone wanted to start over.

It always struck me as extra dangerous to play quidditch because you have four important flying objects to track, and two of them are scoring.  I’ve had friends get concussions from a soccer ball, and there is only one of those to track.  Blind-side hits are super dangerous in any sport and quidditch just invites it.

Usually on a 767 or 777 there is room and I haven’t had trouble with people reclining in front of me. On a 737 you’d have my knees in your back the whole flight if you’re in front of me.

This doesn't make sense to me. Bicycle seats are designed the way they are because they're only meant to hold part of your weight, with the rest distributed to the hands and the feet. This "innovative" seat is just a fancy way to stand while buckled up.

Even Houston, Chicago, LA, and NYC, the biggest manufacturing cities in the US, don’t have a huge amount of employment in that sector relative to their sizes, and their strength has a lot more to do with historical momentum than downtown freeways, which are used way more for commuting than they are for freight.  I’m

Ultimately the decision wasn’t based on them having old structures, since they didn’t always rebuild anything like those old structures.  There were plenty of old buildings that ultimately were not historically valuable and were replaced with relatively mundane modern buildings.  The distinction is that Germany

It’s not really a good point to make, though.  Germany started building the Autobahn before WWII, and finished afterward.  After WWII very little of those historical structures at the center of those cities still remained.  They did not have to knock down anything to build Autobahn routes through the city center,

To be fair, these American cities were actually built before those downtown highways went through, and they did in fact knock down neighborhoods and evict thousands of people to build them. The linked article describes in detail how it was done in Denver, and that they’re doing it again to remove the elevated portion

It’s funny to me how they use replay to overturn plays like this which honestly could go without a review, but can't do anything about more serious errors they make. I can't wait until we have robot referees. Things will be weird as the players and rulebook adapt to rigid enforcement but at least everybody will know

According to Caltrans, that stretch of highway is only used at about 50% of capacity on a regular basis, with the vast majority being local trips (cargo tends to already use I-880).  The suggested replacement that they show is very wide boulevard that allows traffic on the side streets to cross while currently you

Getting to a city via highway: great.

Germany kicks ass at trade with precious few downtown interstates.

A double dribble. If it's called it's a turnover and the ball would go to Auburn. It wasn't called and Virginia won on the points scored on the same possession.

Once you’ve picked up the ball you can’t initiate the dribble again until another player or the basket has touched it.

After the Tennessee-Purdue game I am absolutely not surprised that the refs ruined another epic game with their last second calls.

I have worked at companies with similar problems to these without knowing about it. Just like any big institution, you end up in your own little group and you don’t always see the noise around you.

In the case described above, it wouldn’t have mattered.  If your rescheduled time is more than 2 hours past the time the security line closes, you must still reschedule.

I have had that happen before just so that they could balance the weight on the plane, but never to punish me for not paying extra for leg room.

I’m not sure anybody cares who the Mets hate. I live in New York and honestly couldn’t tell you anything about Mets fans.
