I’d see a CAPTCHA as more useful on a registration page, though there’s some usefulness for using a CAPTCHA for rate-limiting. I like your optimism, but the problem is way harder than just making a vehicle. There isn’t a plan for how to produce the food, air, and water for the journey, and to be honest we still don’t know enough about how to shield humans from cosmic radiation for long enough to get to Mars, then do the same thing back again.
