The difference is that none of those sports involve people deliberatly and egregiously trying to inflict traumatic head injuries on each other. Even in football injuries like this are extraordinarily rare, and that’s the only sport in your list that comes anywhere close to boxing in terms of either traumatic or repeate

I mean, most football players are not explicitly taught to deliberately KO an opponent and if they do so they often get penalized for it—unlike boxing where scoring a KO (read: causing a traumatic brain injury) is an instant win.

So wait, literally all they had to do was legally finish the race, in any position, and they would go to the olympics? And they got disqualified and now won’t go to the olympics because of this? Because that is incredibly unfortunate.

Thank you for obeying the letter of “stick to sports” rather than the intent!

Man you people need to cool it with the JK Rowling bashing. Has she literally revised any text she’s produced? Come back when she actually releases updated versions of the books that you can be mad about, otherwise her own headcanon literally does not matter.

Fuck off Tomato.

Nearly all the time a first down is more valuable than a long field goal attempt, why would you immediately kick the ball back on first down instead of trying to move the ball forward unless it was an exceptional situation?

Getting Americans to switch from manly meat to girly vegetables is all part of a sinister Soviet plot to corrupt our precious bodily fluids.

An even sadder version of the Tom Brady hi-five .gif

Ben played pretty badly over six quarters against the Patriots (very good defense) and Seahawks (at least average), which is not a great sample size. Historically, the Ben Steelers have been above average to very good, and with not much change in personnel* since last year there’s no reason to expect they’d be

I’m not saying you’re strictly wrong, but some variant of this argument has popped up pretty much every year since 07 or so which really sucks the life out of it. The Patriots consistently beat up on a lot of bad teams. They also consistently beat good teams (let’s not forget they whupped the Steelers before

I liked the Pats’ choices to go for it on fourth down, you have the better team and field goals aren’t automatic so why not. I think the plays they called weren’t particularly inspired, Michel got stuffed on 4th & 1 while they lucked into an off-play hold on the 4th & 7 before the missed FG. Still, especially on the

There are about 20 teams in the NFL that are actively not trying to be competitive, either by deliberately tanking or by being aggressively indifferent to their crippling organizational flaws because they’ve figured out they can have .5% higher profits that way. The league doesn’t “set up” a bunch of Washington

Why not just ban the defending SB champ from the postseason completely? I mean if you’re gonna give them special treatment to make it harder for them.

Man it’s hard for me to root for any outcome that will make Cardinals fans happy, but the Braves found a way to make it happen.

I don’t know anybody who captures Trump in writing better than Roth.

Re: RV’s excuse - no one gets more aggressively defensive than someone accused of something they absolutely did.

GWB was a pretty standard Republican suit who was not particularly stupid or malicious, just had no interest in micromanaging the little things, which is why people like Cheney and Rumsfeld had so much freedom to be terrible.

Broken clocks and all that.
