I’ve been a manager at many customer service based companies. The majority of the time the customer is at fault when they complain, and even when the employee is smiling and professional through the interaction, the customer is rude and demanding and wants some special treatment. Or demands to see a manager when they

I heard a news story on NPR that the trend towards making employees smile constantly is actually causing mental health issues and burnout. It’s also causing customers to have unreasonable expectations.

With seasonal/new stuff they’ve also likely just recently tried it (I’ve heard they do staff tastings) so it’s fresh on their mind. And honestly, as someone who’s done quite a bit of retail, just because the company ‘encourages’ it doesn’t mean it isn’t genuine. It can be mind-numbingly boring to scan a ton of items

Some people just relish making other people as miserable as they are. That’s the only explanation I have for this.

I used to work in the hotel industry. I’ve heard customers complain that the staff didn’t “smile with their eyes,” and there was even one staff member that complained because they found out that one of the staff was a student working towards their teaching credential. Why was that a problem? They couldn’t really

They are trying to upsell when they do that (source: two years of secret shopper work). Try to remember that it’s required and be patient.

Many’s the time I’ve had customers complain about various employees being “abrupt and cold” or “unfriendly and unwelcoming” or “snotty- like he/ she is too good to be helping me”.

And not to mention that Americans get personally offended when they see checkout employees sitting in a chair. Because god forbid anyone not stand in one spot for 4 hours at a time. Again, why do they care? Why should people hurt their spines over a (sometimes) minimum wage job?

Not just dates. People who treat servers like rudely or like they’re beneath them can’t be trusted in general. I don’t care how great you are in other respects if you do that you’re at least half an asshole.

I finally figured that out at Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack. They always say Oh this is so cute! I was genuinely flattered a few times. But actually once I asked a clerk her opinion on some shoes and she talked me out of buying them, which was a good call. I hope she didn’t get fired.

Right?

I get that. But surely its’ enough to be courteous and a say, “Can I help you?” Or, “How can I help you?” Or, “What can I do for you?” I don’t expect a service person to be maniacally happy, just polite and engaged and interested, if only on a professional level, in what I need. Genuine enthusiasm is great, but I’m

Excellent choice to not go with the second date- mistreatment of service people is a glaring red flag.

It’s like their attitude is that they feel like strangers owe them the feeling like they’re happy to see them while they simultaneously treat those people like they’re beneath them. I’ve actually decided not to have second dates over this bullshit, it’s not cute when adults act like entitled emotionally fragile babies.

And Hillary Clinton is responsible for the DNC’s leadership because ... ? Is Obama equally reaponsible?

Show me the true, incontrovertible evidence that Hillary Clinton is “bad.”

Please. All Chappelle’s comment proves is that even liberal men will blame women - even the woman they have just voted for - for a man being called out on his disgusting sexism. It’s the same misogyny that’s pervasive with berniebros and the brogressives in general rallying behind Assange, having a massive, irrational

I’ll just leave this here.

I stood outside of a movie theater in a mask and handed out fliers explaining why meat is murder. I was 40. The movie that was playing? Chicken Run.

I was born into poverty in a super duper conservative state and lobbied HARD against free or reduced lunches at school, even for people who were worse off than we were, because my mom was hard core that we would eat nothing before accepting charity. And if I had to eat shitty lunches like a half piece of bread and
