"Slalom" is a pretty garden-variety verb... sub-SAT level, for sure, no?

Exactly. Four of the five alpine-skiing events involve slalom in the name and/or competition structure, for that matter.

Did you just try to mock Sports Illustrated for not taking women's sports seriously enough — and then say you had no idea what "slalom" meant?

Underwood Deviled Ham - disturbingly delicious since 1868. (The Deviled Chicken, on the other hand, is from the fifth level of Hell.)

Wow, so innovative. Patagonia has been doing this since, what... the late Eighties?

Nah, I think we've established your definition of "strenuous ideological bias" is "participates in the economy; makes political donations even-handedly."

Pop quiz: which political party gets more more from Bain?

It's mildly unusual to see a PE firm with a near-majority of female partners, so it's worthy of note even on Jez's own terms (i.e., representation matters).

North Coast is a private-equity firm that focuses on health/wellness acquisitions — unlike most PE firms, they've got several women at the MD/CxO level.

That's a sound point — though it still leaves us w/71% of a (self-selected) sample reporting zero harassment... which has to condition heavily any estimate of how many incidents of annual harassment the "yes" respondents have to deal with.

That wasn't as eye-catching to me as the line "respondents were scattered all over the world, making it more difficult to respond."

Assuming the average FA does 200 segments a year, the reported numbers work out to a .17% chance of being harassed on a flight.

Understood re: NHK. (I did not choose Japan as a lead example randomly :)).

Maybe the idea was to supply Lindy West with a shot of a (extremely well-known) female media figure?

It certainly dominates Japan's, in terms of willingness to break difficult stories etc. And the UK tendency to cover stories along party/ideological lines is either more honest, or just tiresome, depending on one's perspective... but it's hardly a clear improvement.

Good point. Though one has to credit the white-guy journalism mafia for the notion that all errors should be acknowledged, and corrections posted.

"I can't even find a STOCK PHOTO of a black female journalist"

Of course Olivia Wilde is a strong, take-no-BS woman. She spent four years at boarding school with the last name "Cockburn"... what other choices are there?

"As a man, Im constantly confused why men see women as a threat to their manhood..."

Yup... A fetishist who's passingly familiar w Rawls - but a fetishist all the same. Both Rawls and my appetite are the worse for the encounter.
